    Step 4. Add them together

    Result: = 48 48 becomes 4 + 8
    4 + 8 = 12
    1+ 2 = 3

    Step 5 check: We now have the answer of 12 but must check our results using both 12 and 3. We can accomplish this by comparing 12 and 3 with the sum of all the non-factored numbers from Step 1. Step 1 sum = 111. Does 111 have the identities of 12 and 3 as well as 111? Lets see. 1 + 11 = 12 Checks, 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 Checks.
